How to Play Guess the Country

Game Overview

Guess the Country is an educational geography game that helps you learn about countries, cultures, and languages from around the world. Through interactive gameplay and AI-powered hints, you'll explore 197 countries across all continents while improving your cultural knowledge and geographical awareness.

Getting Started

  1. Enter Your Custom Sentence: On the landing page, type any sentence you'd like to hear in different languages. Keep it appropriate and between 10-100 characters. Example: "Hello, how are you today?"
  2. Select Difficulty Level: Choose from four difficulty modes:
    • Easy: 45 highly recognizable countries (USA, Japan, France, etc.)
    • Medium: 56 moderately known countries (Portugal, Kenya, Chile, etc.)
    • Hard: 60 less familiar countries (Latvia, Ecuador, Cambodia, etc.)
    • Impossible: 35 very challenging countries (Bhutan, Lesotho, Kiribati, etc.)
  3. Start Playing: The game will present you with a mystery country to guess!

Gameplay Mechanics

Timer

You have 5 minutes (300 seconds) to guess as many countries as possible. The timer counts down continuously, so think fast and use your hints wisely!

Scoring System

Each correct answer earns you 6 points. Try to maximize your score by guessing quickly and accurately. Your final score is displayed when time runs out.

Visual Clues

For each country, you'll see:

  • Map Location: A Google Maps view showing a random location (may or may not be in the mystery country)
  • Portrait Photo: A person wearing traditional attire from the mystery country

Audio Clue

When each new country appears, your custom sentence will be automatically spoken in that country's native language. Listen carefully to the accent, pronunciation, and language characteristics! Click "Repeat Sentence" to hear it again.

AI Chat Assistant

Ask questions to get progressive hints about the mystery country. The AI assistant will provide cultural clues, geographical hints, and interesting facts without directly revealing the country name. Example questions:

  • "What continent is this country in?"
  • "What is a famous food from this country?"
  • "Tell me about the climate"
  • "What language are they speaking?"
  • "What is the capital city known for?"

Making Your Guess

When you think you know the answer, type the country name in the input box and click "Submit Final Answer" or press Enter. The game accepts:

  • Full country names (e.g., "United States of America")
  • Common short forms (e.g., "USA", "UK", "UAE")
  • Alternate names and aliases

If you're correct, you'll see a green "CORRECT" overlay, earn 6 points, and automatically move to the next country. If you're wrong, the AI will encourage you to keep trying!

Game Controls

  • Repeat Sentence: Click to hear your custom sentence in the country's language again
  • Submit Final Answer: Submit your guess for the current country
  • Next Country: Skip to the next country if you're stuck (no points awarded)
  • End Game: Return to the main menu and see your final score
